7th Bergsten Lecture

The University of Vienna and the Austrian Arbitration Association (Arb|Aut) cordially invite you to the 7th Bergsten Lecture which annually takes place in Vienna during the Vis Moot finals.

The Lecture is held in honour of Professor Eric Bergsten, the “father” of the Vis Moot who had organized this event for more than 20 years.

This year’s Lecture will be given by Carolyn Lamm (Partner, White & Case) who will discuss “The Importance of Dealing with Fraud, Corruption and Illegality in International Arbitration – the Evolution as a Legal Standard and Impact on Development”.

The Lecture will be followed by a panel discussion chaired by Paul Oberhammer (Dean, Faculty of Law, University of Vienna) with Andrea Kay Bjorklund (Professor, McGill University Faculty of Law) and Florian Haugeneder (Partner, KNOETZL) and as panel speakers.

HKIAC/VIAC – Joint Event in Vienna

Please register for the HKIAC/VIAC Joint Conference in Tylney Hall Style format. Together with Peter Leaver QC and Prof. Janet Walker. VIAC Vice-President Dr. Nikolaus Pitkowitz will answer questions from the audience on “Concurrent Proceedings and Confidentiality”“Impact of the applicable law to the arbitration agreement”, “Admissibility of illegally obtained evidence” and “Evidence and legal positions in related proceedings” moderated by Sarah Grimmer (Secretary General of HKIAC).

The event will be held on 12 April 2019, 4:30 to 6:00 pm at the premises of VIAC in Vienna at the occasion of the 26th Willem C. Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot.

HKIAC/VIAC – Joint Event in Hong Kong

“Navigating Applicable Law, Admission of Evidence and Related Proceedings: Issues and Challenges” is the theme of an event jointly organized by the Hong Kong International Arbitration Centre (HKIAC) and the Vienna International Arbitral Centre (VIAC) in Hong Kong on the occasion of the 16th Vis East Moot.

The seminar will be held on 4 April 2019 at the premises of HKIAC in Hong Kong.

Association of Young Arbitrators Africa Arbitration Academy

The Association of Young Arbitrators (AYA) has launched the Africa Arbitration Academy. The Academy was established due to the rising demand for improved expertise and training of arbitration practitioners in Africa and to expose young practitioners in Africa to the current trends and developments in international commercial and investment arbitration. The inaugural Academy program will be taught by international arbitration experts, heads of arbitration institutions, in-house counsel, and judges.

AfAA 1st Annual International Arbitration Conference

Themed ‘The Coming of Age of International Arbitration in Africa’, the African Arbitration Association’s 1st Annual International Arbitration Conference will discuss Africa’s achievements in international arbitration to date and consider what more can be done to increase participation of Africans in international arbitration.

The Casablanca International Mediation and Arbitration Centre (CIMAC) invites you to a (bilingual) debate between two of its Court members, Professor Maxi Scherrer, WilmerHale and Queen Mary University of London, and Professor Thomas Clay, Clay Arbitration and Université Paris I, on the topic “Are arbitral institutions (still) to be trusted?”.
